Preventing Holiday Eating

Thanks to Elayne Oligschlaeger, Weight Watchers Leader

Holiday parties can wreak havoc with our diets. Some of us prepare by starving ourselves for days before a big party so we're able to eat until our heart's content. Let's review some of the party rules to help make sure we are good to ourselves this holiday season.

  1. Don't starve yourself before a party. This is hard on your metabolism and your brain.
  2. Eat a balanced snack before attending the party to help curb your appetite.
  3. Try just a little of everything. Your taste buds are satisfied afterthree or four bites.
  4. Drink water throughout the party. This will help keep you satisfied.
  5. Limit alcohol consumption. Nurse a glass of wine and keep it in your hands (it will make plate holding more difficult)
  6. Watch for the highcalorie, highfat foods (cheesecakes, fried appetizers, etc.).
  7. Wear clothing that makes you feel good. Clothing that "fits" may keep you from eating too much.
  8. Remember, find pleasure in people and conversation, not in food.

Treat yourself special.
