Dear MVVMA Attendees
I've set up this page to give you a little information about what we'll be doing at my sessions on May 13.
What's In It For ME?
May 13, 2010 1:30-2:30
Keynote
Willamette River Rooms B & C
I call this session, "What's in it for me?" because -- if you're like me -- you really want to do well. I have a lot of my self-image tied up in doing a good job, as an manager, as a spouse, as a parent, and as a community member. I forget that there's more to me than what I do. I also forget that if I don't get something from my job, I'm just getting older.
This session is designed to help you feel good about what you do -- and remind you to stay in touch with what's important on the big picture.
In this session, we'll:
Come up with ways to re-energize yourself
Develop some tools to handle people with "badittude"
Come up with some methods to help us when our own attitude gets "out of whack"
Learn ways to enjoy what we do more often
Develop tools to stay focused
Have a good time
Morning Break Out Session #203
TALK:
The 4 Steps to Effective Public Communication
11AM - 12:30 PM Croisan Creek Room B
Have you ever had to make a presentation in front of a group of people?
Whether it's an audience of board members, employees, or volunteers, there are times when even the best of us would rather just drop in a hole.
Although it's normal to have "butterflies" when you do a presentation (no matter how long you've been doing it), this session will help you put the butterflies into formation.
It is an interactive session that will help you:
Feel calmer
Make a better impact
Use stories to get your point across
Develop some tools to be more persuasive
Handle conflict
Like all my presentations, it's a "safe environment" and you won't be called on unless you volunteer. But, if you do, you'll have a blast.
Take this one question poll! See the results immediately!

A little about my philosophy:
In order to be fair to you, you probably need to know a little about me so you know what to expect.
I am not a "talking head." My presentations tend NOT to follow a script. I interact with the audience. I welcome your opinions. I tend to be "off the cuff," informal, impromptu, and prone to engage in (bad) puns.
I use a learning technique called "sculpting" a lot of time. It's fun and engaging and my audiences seem to get a lot out of it. (You can see some examples of sculpting by following this link.)
I believe the number one rule of change is: If guilt and shame were motivational, we'd all be more successful. I believe we're really quick to beat ourselves up and very slow to reward ourselves. I want to help change that by being supportive and encouraging.
I call myself a THINspirational speaker and columnist (I've had a syndicated column for four years) because I became a professional speaker after losing 70 pounds in 1994. Although I am a Weight Watchers leader and I write about weight loss, I will not be watching what you eat. I would prefer you do not watch what I eat. (Is it a deal?)
As past president of the National Speakers Association (Northern CA chapter), I do this for a living. I am honored to have spoken to audiences across this country and it is my pledge to you that I will do everything I can to make sure the time you spend with me is worth your time, motivational, and educational.
What now?
You can answer the one-question poll on this page and see how you fit in with others.
I am doing a long-term project on global attitude. It consists of four questions. It's anonymous. If you'd like to answer the question, you can go to www.AttitudeIndex.com
